This article is going to show you my studio apartment design that I am very proud of. I moved from a much larger, 900 square foot, two-bedroom apartment to the 573 square foot apartment in which I am living today.
After a lot of research, I feel like I have designed to the best layout possible. The current layout has room for three “sections” that I refer to as the bedroom, living room, and dining room.

My Studio Apartment Layout
Below you will see the floor plan with my furniture layout. I think having a divider for a studio apartment is a must. It really helps to make the space feel more organized. Mentally, I sleep better because I have my own little sleep corner.

As you can see, my 573-square-foot apartment can hold a full size bed, a couch that seats three, a table for 4, and a TV.
It feels like I have plenty of room. I don’t feel cramped at all!
Why Living in a Studio A Good Idea
There are so many reasons why living in a studio apartment is a good idea. I don’t regret my decision to downsize at all!
1. It Saves Money
Usually, the smaller apartment also costs less. In my case, I downsized for a luxurious, high-rise building. I felt like it was a way for me to get a lot of bang for my buck, so to speak.
2. It Is More Sustainable
If you care about the environment, living in a studio is a great way to help save the planet. Likely, your unit took less materials to build. You are also using less water and energy in the small space than you would in a larger space.
3. Easier to Clean
It’s no doubt a lot easier to clean a smaller space than it is to clean a larger space. Because you are living in a tiny apartment, there is less to keep organized. The floors and counter-spaces are smaller too, for that matter. Less to mop and wipe!
4. Opportunity for Minimalist Living
While living in a studio apartment, I really had to be mindful with my purchases. Every new item I brought into my home needed an intentional spot for storing it.
Since most studio apartments probably have limited storage, it requires a minimalist mindset for what is essential in your scarce space.

I have chosen a Ikea inspired shelf to serve as additional storage and a room divider.
Not only is it a room divider, it has even more storage for clothes! I also thing it is such a cute way to display my plants.
This single piece of furniture was only around $100. It literally is key to the space. It helped me create a sleep nook that I can comfortably sleep in every night.
A Dining Area is A Nice Touch
Who says you can’t eat at a table like a regular human just because you are living small?
Some minimalists might not mind eating at a counter top or something, but for me personally, eating at a table is so nice for my quality of life. Nothing can replace the peace and relaxation I feel by enjoying a meal at a dining table.

Utilize All The Space
In a studio apartment, creativity is key! Every nook and cranny is an opportunity for storage. In my case I put a chest of drawers to serve 2 purposes – kitchen storage and a behind-the-couch table!
As you can see, this table fit’s perfectly and even makes the space feel more whole. I love it!

Go Vertical
Whenever square footage is limited, start storing stuff where you can. As you can see, my studio apartment has limited counter space. There was no place for a fruit bowl. That’s why I took some inspiration from sail boats – I bought a fruit net and suspended it above the counter. Problem solved!
